Story

The fabrication of bronze bells has been closely linked to the Jean OBERTINO family for over three centuries. They were itinerant bell founders that came from Italy through Switzerland, and settled in France at the beginning of the 20th century, before settling in Morteau in 1931. Since then, several OBERTINO generations have perpetuated this know-how to the present day.

Since 2011, OBERTINO MORTEAU has held the EPV label (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, Living Heritage Company). By mastering a rare know-how of excellence, the foundry manufactures over 200 models of bells with the greatest respect for tradition. From small bells to cattle bells, chapel bells, medals, commemorative plaques, bas-reliefs and other tailor-made items, each piece is entirely hand-molded before being cast. Finishing is then done by hand. All our pieces can be personalized on request.

Yves and Sylviane OBERTINO have proudly continued this family saga until the end of 2017, after many years of loyal service on behalf of the foundry.

In 2018, Siv-Chheng TIV takes over the torch at the OBERTINO MORTEAU foundry to write a new chapter in its history. After spending six months working alongside Yves OBERTINO to immerse herself in the company's operations, she breathes fresh air into the foundry as its new managing director.

Seduced by this artisanal know-how, Siv-Chheng TIV is committed to leading the company towards new horizons, while maintaining the excellence and age-old tradition of the foundry. In the context of the health crisis, the foundry has shown its resilience thanks to the “cloches de la solidarité (bells of solidarity)”, and today continues to fight to remain competitive, both in terms of prices and the quality of its pieces.

Today, OBERTINO MORTEAU invites you to explore its workshops on a guided tour led by Siv-Chheng TIV, our company's director. You'll be able to follow each stage in the manufacture of the bells in real time, from moulding to finishing, and watch the casting of the bronze which is the high point of the visit. You'll also discover the foundry's other creations, as well as the leatherwork, with our saddler creating a decoration on a leather strap.
